Can you do Real Estate Part Time?

Real Estate as a profession is one of the most flexible industries to be in. You can do real estate part-time or full-time. We have agents fresh out of high school all the way to retirees who have chosen real estate as their next profession. We have stay-at-home moms or dads to doctors, teachers, even oil rig workers who have active real estate licenses and are practicing real estate.

The short answer to the question is absolutely

Whether you are wanting to work just a couple hours a week to 60+ you can do that as a licensed real estate agent. You will just need to find a broker that will accommodate your needs.

Some types of real estate are a little more time consuming. For instance, a buyer’s agent realtor will do some driving around and showing properties to clients, usually during off hours. Whereas, apartment locators can work from home and never leave their desk if they choose, which means you can pretty much do that from anywhere there is internet and a phone service.

Commercial transactions can take years in some cases so time requirements will be substantially increased for those types of transactions. Not all are that way, but certainly some development or acquisitions of large pieces of properties can take some time.

Real Estate is probably the one profession with the most people who have been in the profession for over 20 years. It is the kind of profession that even if you decide to do something else most people keep their license active just because of the occasional transaction that can happen which can earn additional income. Also, people often will come back and try again later when they are in another chapter in life.

I will say that even with all of this flexibility there is a side note to be aware of. You are going to get out of it exactly what you put in. So don’t expect to make millions while only spending an hour a week on it.

People who do not try to generate leads can usually get about 2 or 3 deals per year from friends and family. That amount goes up the longer you’re in the business because of the referral network growth.

One real estate transaction will cover the cost of the license and overhead you will have so even as a part-time gig, real estate is a probably the best part-time job you could have.

If you know of a job that can earn you thousands to ten’s of thousands on one transaction where you main investment is just time, please let me know. As far as I know this is unique to real estate.

Here at Spirit Real Estate Group there are no hourly requirements, no office that you have to show up to, or required meetings. You have the freedom to invest as much time as you wish. Also this structure of brokerage allows you to keep your whole commission.
